Body Confidence & My Mind

I spoke to my coach about it and decided to leave the chaotic changing room backstage to readjust and get my head in the game.

Sports and Recreation eBooks

Five minutes before Round Two, I went back into the changing rooms, wished the girls luck, and waited. Finally, they called my name, and my music came on. And for that one-minute routine – choreographed with the help of my coach – I gave it my all. I didn’t care no more. I had nothing to lose and strutted around with the confidence the other girls had. When judging announced the winners, I was flabbergasted. I had placed 3rd in the Figure category, and while participating in my first ever bodybuilding competition! Instantly my mood changed. I was on a high – presented with a bag of gifts and trophies. I left the venue so excited I even forgot my posing shoes. I had accomplished what I set out to do and more.

Now that was two years ago (2019), and life subsequently changed for the better in most circumstances, as the experience has prompted a further discovery of myself. Occasionally I look at the pictures and smile with pride because it pinpoints a journey in my life. Today I am not as ripped, and I have steadily gained weight, but one thing I do know is my body confidence is high because my mind is right. I’ve learned that I’m happier having a little more weight and less muscle mass, but most importantly, I have continued to work on myself, from all angles.

Love Your Body

We have to love our bodies for what they are capable of, but the work must begin within the mind, watering it every day with positive thoughts, and including “I love my body” affirmations. Allowing your mental health to be sacrificed for the perfect body is wrong. All bodies are good bodies, and we must remember body confidence comes from embracing the body we already have! Teach and train your mind to love it in all conditions and avoid commenting on other people’s bodies – you don’t know how it can affect them.

I leave you with a quote to think about by Robert Holden:

“No amount of self- improvement can make up for any lack of self -acceptance”.
